Marcello Dudovich (21 March 1878 in Trieste – 31 March 1962 in Milan) was an Italian painter, illustrator, and poster designer. Together with Leonetto Cappiello, Adolfo Hohenstein, Giovanni Maria Mataloni and Leopoldo Metlicovitz he is considered one of the progenitors of Italian poster design .( Some time ago we already showed the posters of Leopoldo Metlicovitz.)
He also became involved with the blossoming cinematographic industry. In 1900 he was awarded the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris and in 1920 and 1922 he participated in Biennale of Venice. Dudovich was one of the most acclaimed advertising poster artists of his time. Influenced by Penfield, Hohenstein (his friend and teacher) and Mucha. He developed his own style, very graphic, with rich colours. He become the official poster artist for Mele, the great fashion department store.

Albert Langer, ein Freund von Dudovich seit seinem Aufenthalt in Bayern, lud ihn 1911 ein, wieder nach Deutschland zurück zukehren und für die satirische Zeitschrft Simplicissmus zu zeichnen.Er sollte die mondäne Welt abbilden. Dudovich blieb bis zum Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkrieges. Während dieser Schaffensperiode wurde er von Klimt und Kadinsky beeinflusst.

Dudovich zeichnete für eine Reihe von Zeitschriften Umschläge wie z.B. La Lettura, Varietas, Ars et Labor, Touring und Secolo XX.
